Course Outline
Description: This comprehensive training session is dedicated to equipping participants with the foundational skills required to effectively set up and utilize Wordfast Pro, version 5.19 or higher. The course will focus on hands-on exercises to create and manage glossaries and translation memories, along with other essential resources. It is designed for translators and interpreters who are either new to Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools, specifically Wordfast Pro, or who have been using the software without any formal training.
Goals and Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will have acquired the following skills and knowledge:
- Project and Resource Creation:
- Create a translation project within Wordfast Pro.
- Set up translation memory (TM) files and glossary files.
- File Upload for Translation:
- Upload and prepare Word or PDF documents for translation within the software.
- Translation Memory and Glossary Management:
- Commit translated segments to the translation memory.
- Add new terms to the glossary file efficiently.
- Using the Translation Editor:
- Navigate and utilize the translation editor interface.
- Understand the functions and buttons available in the menu.
- Handling Special Cases:
- Work with tags, manage fuzzy matches, and handle repeated segments.
- Segmentation Settings:
- Adjust segmentation settings to merge or split segments as needed.
- Live Preview:
- Utilize the live preview feature to see real-time changes and ensure accuracy.
- File Analysis:
- Analyze translation files to determine word count and pricing estimates.
- Quality Assurance:
- Run Transcheck and perform spellchecking to ensure high-quality translations.
- Saving Translated Files:
- Save the completed translation files in the desired format.
This course aims to provide a solid foundation in using Wordfast Pro, ensuring that participants can efficiently manage translation projects and resources, ultimately enhancing their productivity and translation quality.
This is a live online workshop and is approved for 2 CIMCE in California.
